Trent View Medical Practice abruptly closes as patients worry about future

A GP surgery has confirmed all three of its branches have closed “due to unforeseen circumstances”.

Trent View Medical Practice, which has one surgery in Keadby as well as in Crowle and Skippingdale in Scunthorpe, closed early on Friday without prior notice. The reason for the closure has not yet been explained by the provider. In a social media post, it told patients to wait for an update on its social media page at 8pm on Sunday.

The post said if the surgeries remain closed next week “arrangements will be made” for the collection and delivery of medication.

In a statement it posted on its Facebook page, Trent View Medical Practice said: “Thank you for your understanding, the situation regarding opening the surgeries will be assessed over the weekend and an update available on Sunday 21 April 2024 by 8pm.

“In the meantime please be assured the telephone lines will be available from 8am on Monday 22 April 2024. If the surgeries remain closed arrangements will be made for the collection and delivery of medication.

“Further information will be provided in due course. With kind regards The Business Manager.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, all sites – Crowle, Keadby and Skippingdale – have been closed. If you have shortness of breath or chest pain please call 999. If you require urgent medical assistance please call 111.”

Meanwhile, worried patients who read the post have questioned if the GP will open again. One person commented: “Please be clear about why and for how long to avoid people being over duly worried.” Another person said: “This is really worrying, if you are closing people need to know asap to make alternative arrangements!”

Scunthorpe Live has contacted the Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) for comment.

In a previous inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) 11 months ago, the practice was rated “requires improvement”. The report said it had not met legal requirements because it was in breach of two regulations of The Health and Social Care Act 2008.

Problems flagged in the inspection from May last year included maintenance of the Skippingdale building, overdue medication reviews, safe storage of medications, and safeguarding concerns. When rated “requires improvement”, services are inspected by the CQC at least every 12 months.
