Two arrested after reports ‘woman was starting fires and throwing items from house’ in Scunthorpe

A woman is now in custody after police were called to reports of someone starting fires and throwing items out of a window.

Humberside Police had to put up a cordon in Elizabeth Street, Scunthorpe, to keep people safe during the disturbance which had started at 6am. A 26-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of burglary, affray and causing public nuisance.

In a statement this afternoon, the force said: “A woman has been arrested after officers were in attendance on Elizabeth Street in Scunthorpe this morning. At approximately 6am today (Wednesday 20 November) we were called to reports of a woman causing damage to a property.

“Officers attended and a woman is believed to have been setting fire to household items within the house, and several other items are also reported to have been thrown from the property.

“A cordon was put in place to ensure the safety of the public and emergency services whilst the incident was brought to a safe conclusion. A woman, aged 26 was arrested on suspicion of burglary, affray and causing public nuisance. A man, aged 35 was also arrested at the scene.”

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Chad Stevens said: “I want to thank residents for their cooperation this morning whilst officers put a cordon in place to ensure everyone’s safety.

“I fully appreciate the inconvenience this can cause, however was essential so that we could bring the incident to a swift and safe conclusion.

“Members of the public can expect to see an increase police presence in the area whilst we conduct lines of enquiry. If you have any concerns, please do speak to one of our team.”
