Wakefield packaging site hosts sustainable fuel trial for Coco-Cola bottler

A major bottler of Coca-Cola has partnered with the West Yorkshire operation of Ball Beverage Packaging to run deliveries powered by a mix of vegetable oil and diesel.

Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP), one of the world’s largest independent bottlers, is working with the packaging manufacturer at its Wakefield factory to make up to 5,000 deliveries using the technology in a move it says could lower its carbon emissions by 300 tonnes per year. The project is being supported by logistics firm Menzies and continues Ball’s use of the fuel type at facilities in France and Sweden and CCEP’s use of the fuel in five European countries.

Hydrotreated vegetable oil can be stored alongside diesel in local tanks and the fuel types can be mixed throughout the fleet. It can be used as a primary fuel source for the vehicle or in conjunction with diesel to improve CO2e emissions without need to modifications to vehicles.
