West Yorkshire projects secure £11.4m funding to benefit businesses

A handful of West Yorkshire organisations will share in £11.4m to drive business growth, the mayor Tracy Brabin has announced.

Among the eight recipients are the University of Huddersfield which will use £3.8m towards a new health and wellbeing innovation centre at its National Health Innovation Campus and the University of Bradford which will receive £1.1m to boost its research and development facilities for manufacturing businesses. Business support specialist Exemplas Limited will use funding for its Exporting for Success programme and RTC North Ltd has also received backing for its Innovation in Supply Chain West Yorkshire scheme.

The projects will be part funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and the £2.6bn UK Shared Prosperity Fund. News of the funds follows the Government’s decision to mark areas around Huddersfield, Bradford and Leeds as England’s third Investment Zone in the hope of spurring £220m investment for health tech and digital businesses.
