Woman sadly dies in crash on A18 Mortal Ash Hill near Scunthorpe

A woman has sadly died following a crash on the A18 near Scunthorpe on Friday.

The 81-year-old woman was driving a Seat Ibiza when it was in collision with a Land Rover Freelander at the junction of the B1398 Kirton Road and the A18 at Mortal Ash Hill. She was taken to hospital, but died from her injuries and her family has been informed.

Police were called to the scene at around 2.20pm. The road was closed for accident investigation work and reopened on Saturday morning.

In a statement, Humberside Police said: “Officers are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision on the A18 (westbound) yesterday (Friday). We were called at around 2.20pm to reports that a Seat Ibiza and Land Rover Freelander had been involved in collision at the junction of the B1398, Kirton Road.

“The driver of the Seat Ibiza, an 81-year-old woman, was taken to hospital to receive medical treatment but despite the efforts of emergency services, she died from her injuries. Her family have been informed and our thoughts remain with them at this really difficult time.”

The fatal collision follows another serious crash on the same stretch of road last week, when three people were injured. Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to call police on 101, the non emergency number, quoting log 276 of October 6.
