Young Scunthorpe dancer ‘destined to light up the stage’ to represent England in Dance World Cup

A talented dancer from Scunthorpe who has gone from strength to strength in the eight years since he started dancing and is “destined to light up the stage” will soon represent England in the Dance World Cup.

Jack Foxton, 16, who attends Frederick Gough School, fell in love with dance when he started ballet classes at the age of eight, and has gone on to specialise in contemporary dance at the Kimberley Performing Arts Centre.

His family are bursting with pride after he was selected to compete for the title of World Champion in three separate categories at the Dance World Cup, which will take place in Spain from Monday, July 7 to Friday, July 11.

Over the years, Jack has honed his incredible skill at the Northern Ballet in Leeds, and also won a scholarship to the prestigious Bird College in London.

Jack’s mum, May Foxton, told Scunthorpe Live: “When Jack started dancing, he loved it. He can watch a video, practice it over and over again and learn it really quickly. All his dance teachers praise his quick ability to learn, and when he gets on stage he’s just amazing to watch.

“After he won the scholarship to Bird College in London, I wanted to speak to the teachers after the week-long placement to see what they thought. The teachers in Scunthorpe think he’s good, but I wanted to know what people in London thought. They said he had something they can’t teach and that he has such a strong stage presence.”

Jack will represent England at the Dance World Cup in the following Junior categories: Modern Dance, Song and Dance and Showstopper.

“I’m so proud of him, the whole family is. Everyone loves to go watch him, his nanna passed away last year and she was his biggest fan. She’d be so proud,” May said.

Jack’s dad added: “I’m so proud of Jack, he puts so much effort in. Everything he does, from school to dance, training and his performances, and always thriving to be the best he can, makes us all proud every day and he deserves to shine on the big stage in Spain in the World Cup.

“Jack’s number one fan, his nanna, sadly passed away a few months ago but we know she will always be watching over him.”

Jack’s dance teacher, Miss Ellie, said: “I’m so proud of the incredible opportunity Jack has been given, qualifying to represent Team England at the Dance World Cup. I’ve taught Jack from the age of nine and knew he was destined to light up the stage.

“Jack always gives no less than 100 percent and always strives to reach his full potential, and now is his chance to show off all of his hard work. Jack always represents Kimberley Performing Arts Centre to the highest standard. The future is so bright for Jack.”

Jack is currently seeking sponsorships from local businesses to represent him at the Dance World Cup. To find out more, you can email Jack on jackfoxton.official@gmail.com.
