A football fan banned from all matches for the next five years, a woman caught driving under the influence of cocaine and a thief who stole £100 worth of chocolate – these are just some offenders who appeared at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court last week.
While some cases were adjourned until a later date and others sent to be tried at Grimsby Crown Court, magistrates in Grimsby still handed out prison sentences, community orders and hefty fines.
Here are ten people from across northern Lincolnshire who have appeared at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court in recent days.

Bryan Whiteley, 37, of Old Brumby Road, Scunthorpe pleaded guilty to using threatening or abusive words or behaviour that was likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress. He was handed a five-year football banning order which prohibits him from attending any football matches in the country and prohibits him from entering the area around Scunthorpe United’s home ground from four hours before kick-off until three hours after. He is also banned from entering any town or city where Scunthorpe United or the England team are playing on that given day. He was also ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Stephanie Fisher, 30, of Norwich Avenue, Grimsby pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle whilst under the influence of cocaine and to one count of resisting arrest. She was disqualified from driving for 18 months and handed an 18-month suspended sentence.
David Hunter, 35, of Clerke Street, Cleethorpes pleaded guilty to three counts of theft from a shop in which he stole £73 worth of Kinder Surprise eggs, £24 worth of Terry’s Chocolate Orange Easter eggs and £48 worth of cold meats. He was jailed for six weeks and ordered to pay £145 in compensation.
Elliott Challis, 26, of no fixed abode indicated pleas of guilty to the possession of cannabis, the attempted theft of a pair of hair straighteners from a shop and receiving stolen goods. He also pleaded guilty to obstructing a police officer who was in the execution of his duty. He was jailed for 12 weeks and ordered to pay a £154 victim services surcharge.
Shane Crilly, 23, of Shelford Street, Scunthorpe indicated a plea of guilty to fraud by false representation, namely by using a stolen bank card that did not belong to him. He was jailed for eight weeks.
Sarah Hammerton, 36, of Oxford Street, Grimsby pleaded guilty to causing harassment, alarm or distress against another person by using racial or religiously aggravated threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour. She was given a 12-month conditional discharge, ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and charged a £26 victim services surcharge.
Jordan Smithson, 25, of St Nicholas Drive, Grimsby pleaded guilty to assault by beating of a police officer on High Street in Cleethorpes. He also changed a previous plea of not guilty to guilty for common assault of another victim. He was ordered to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work, pay £135 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and a £114 victim services surcharge.
Samantha Hardy, 36, of Frances Street, Scunthorpe indicated a plea of guilty to the common assault of an emergency worker. She was given a 12-month conditional discharge, ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and £50 in compensation.
Aaron Bailey, 31, of Cherry Grove, Scunthorpe pleaded guilty to assault by beating and indicated a plea of guilty to the possession of cannabis. He was given a community order and a one-year restraining order, and ordered to pay a £114 victim services surcharge and £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Bradley Piatt, 25, of no fixed abode pleaded guilty to assault by beating and indicated a plea of guilty to the possession of cannabis. He was given a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £50 in compensation.
