Scunthorpe homes evacuated due to fire at hidden cannabis farm

People were evacuated from their homes when a fire broke out in a neighbouring cannabis farm in the early hours of this morning.

Humberside Police said the fire at a property in Teale Street, in Scunthorpe, happened at around 3.35am and, when emergency services entered the building, a cannabis grow was discovered. The force said it appeared electricity may have been diverted in an unsafe way, but the investigation is still ongoing.

Nobody was hurt and people in neighbouring homes were evacuated “as a precaution”, police said. A cordon remains at the scene.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police side: “Officers are in attendance on Teale Street in Scunthorpe after we were called to reports of a property on fire at 3.35am this morning (Monday 27 January).
